Turner Drawn Aussie Pairs

20 Teams of 2 players took part in this drawn Aussie Pairs competition. The format was 4 groups of 5 teams competing in a Round Robin format of 8 ends. The winners of each group then played in a semi-final knockout to arrive at 2 teams in the Final.

And what a nailbiter of a final it was, the protagonists were Brenda Burgess and David Ings versus Jean Gullidge and Doug Bacon with Brenda and Dave taking an early lead of 5 shots to 1, by end 7 Doug and Jean had managed to sneak ahead by 1 shot to 6-5, by end 8 Brenda and Dave drew back to a 6-6 shot draw. This necessitated an extra end to decide who would lift the trophy and Brenda and Dave prevailed to win the competition by just 1 shot, 7-6.
The trophy and first prize of 75 Euros each were presented by the Sponsor of the event, Andrew Turner of Turner Insurance Specialists of Javea, this is the second year he has sponsored the competition, so many thanks Andrew. The runners-up also received a prize of 50E each. The beaten semi-finalists of Dave Carvath and Jane Baron along with Brian Taylor and Nigel Thomas all took home 25E apiece. As well as the very generous prize money, Andrew also donated a 100E voucher for petrol or diesel in the shape of a free draw for all participating players, the lucky winner was Jill Nobbs. This was a well organised competition thanks to Mike and Mary O’Neill. The ambience over the two days made this a memorable and very enjoyable event for all participants.
